Evidence-based music therapy intervention for children
Children who are waiting for or have already had their assessment may start having music therapy, procedures for an initial session are as follows:

1. Application form submission

2. Meeting with caregivers (15 mins)

3. Music therapy clinical assessment (45 mins)

4. Aims identification (15 mins)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Music therapy has been widely adapted in schools and paediatric settings for

emotional regulation, improving attention span, minimising self-stimulation,

and supporting cognitive development in children with ASD.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Music therapy helps children with ADHD stay focus for longer without the use of medication. Children show less episodes of hyperactivity after receiving music therapy. It is also a great sensory experience for these children.

Behavioural Problems

Children's behavioural problems may be related to underlying mental and emotional challenges and stress. Music as a nonverbal means of communication serves as a creative outlet for them to express and understand their inner world and work through the behavioural problems.

Speech and Language Developmental Delay

Parents start to notice their children's speech and language developmental delay when they're playing with their peers. Children who show interest in music tends to have a lot of potential to support their speech development at a young age.

Genetic Disorders and Syndromes

Music therapy is an allied healthcare professional that helps children who are born with genetic disorder and their families to provide early interventions, manage the children's symptoms and improve their quality of life. It is commonly used to compliment physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and clinical interventions with paediatricians.
